Feeling a bit nostalgic? Maybe you pulled out your old yearbook and saw a photo of one of your friends from college or high school, and now you wish you could find them. But since it's been quite a number of years (maybe more than you want to admit!), you may not have a phone number or address for your friend.
But what about getting in touch with them via their email address? Is it possible? How difficult is it to find someone's email address?
To maintain their customers' privacy, most Internet Service Providers usual
y do not register their customers' email addresses in public email directories, so it is then left up to each person to take it upon themselves to register their email address with a directory of their choice - if they wish to do so.
If your old friend never registered their email address, it can be quite a dilemma to find them. But it is not impossible. Here are a few steps you can take to start looking.
First of course is the use of search engines. Try typing in your friend's name including all variations such as Bob, Bobby, Robert, etc. Add the school name of course. Try adding in hobbies or spouse's name if you know it. If the name is pretty common this method won't work at all, but if it's a fairly unique name you could have some luck and might be able to find someone's email address using Google, etc.
Try checking some directories at one of the many genealogy or family history sites. Many people use these sites for researching their family tree, and you may be able to search some public records through some of these sites.
Finally, register at one of the class reunion websites online. There are several, and many people have some success finding their friends from school this way. Even if you don't find that one particular friend you may end up with tickets to your next class reunion!
